Two posts in one day...I know, I know, but I thought I should continue on with the birthday theme and show you the gift for my mom that I referred to the other day.
I was totally inspired by the fabulous cake that Tracey Mason made as a wedding gift. You can see it here. I immediately wanted to bury myself in my craft room and make my own. But I don't know anyone getting married, so I made a birthday cake.
I covered paper mache boxes with Close To My Heart's White Daisy cardstock. The upper layer I also embossed with my Cuttlebug before attaching it. I attached the boxes with my hot glue gun and then used CTMH's glitz glitter glue to hide the glue and the spaces in between the paper layers.
The flowers are spiral roses. You can find different tutorials on this technique on YouTube. They are super easy. In the middle of each flower, I attached on of CTMH's new pearl opaques. Underneath the middle flower there is a gift certificate to a hair salon for my mom to get some pampering for her special day.
Hope you enjoyed the project as much as I did and that I inspired you to make something special today!

Birthday Time
I have the best friends. They put together this beautiful flower arrangement for my birthday, even customizing it with music images from the Cricut Quarter Note cartridge. They took me to lunch, gave me coffee cards, and a beautiful necklace. Another friend gave me gift cards for a dinner and movie night with my husband. It was a wonderful day. Thanks to all my friends who made me feel so special!

Gumball Containers
Hey everyone! Sorry to have been gone so long after my first post. Here is my problem... I love to create late at night, but then getting a photograph of my art has to wait until daylight. With daylight comes kids, chores, errands, work, etc. You get the picture. Anyway, I finally got some pics of some of the projects I have been working on...
Here is a fun gift that was inspired by one of my son's preschool teachers. They look like gumball machines, but it is actually a terra-cotta planter spray painted in whatever color you would like. Then I placed one of those fish bowls (you know the one everyone uses at parties) on top. I used my hot glue gun to secure it all. The "lid" is a water catcher for a planter. I just chose the size that would set on top of the fish bowl and not fall in. It was spray painted to match and then I finished it off with a wooden dowel on top.
The green one is for my husband. He asked for one to put on his desk at work to hold instrument reeds and green is his school color. The blue one is for me. It sets on my desk and I am using it to store odds and ends at this point. I made a red one at Christmas and filled it with M&M's as a gift. Super easy and so fun!
Let me know if you have any questions. I will be back in a few days with a super cool project I did for my mom's birthday!

It's about time!
I started designing this blog over a year ago. Seriously. As with all my projects I wanted it to be perfect before I started using it. I should know better. Perfection doesn't exist with two young children. Chaos (otherwise known as life) exists with two young children.
Anyway, here it is the first day of 2011. My New Year's resolution? Start using my blog -finished or not. Which it's not, but that's okay!
So welcome to my journey. My goal is to post at least once a week. Mostly it will be with new projects, but I might throw in a few other tidbits along the way! I hope you will come back and visit often. Happy New Year!
